If we can provide examples of mariculture techniques which can be shown to be part of a sustainable industry, it would be a constructive way to show that not all aquaculture is bad, and it is certainly necessary if we are to provide for the demand for seafood products. In the literature referenced, the principles of sustainability are emphasized. These could be highlighted with the mariculture tanks. reference 9 below gives the statistics of aquacultuer products in BC. There is a also a possibility that the polyculture methods used in some third world countries can be highlighted. This is an area which should not be overlooked in the NMC, and it helps to tie in with the global perspective.. It also helps to fullfill mandates of the earth charter.

Sustainable aquaculture is an area that could be portrayed in live tank displays. Following are some species which may prove useful:

a Geoduck tank ..view a complete animal under .5 m of sediment through a glass tank
a hanging scallop net
an abalone culture tray.
Seaweed culture cylinders.
